“My short birthcontrol story”
By Roos Alberts
Interviewed by Arielle Joss
What comes to mind when you think of birth control? For 22-year-old Roos Alberts, the struggles of birth control have helped her curate a spacey series, reminiscent of a lizzie-mcguire era.
What inspired you to create this series?
The idea came to me while I was facing a lot of side effects that came with the IUD that you can see in the pictures. My body couldn't handle the IUD and it had to be removed. I wanted to create a series that visualizes the birth control of a woman with a dreamy feminine touch. It has so much control over a womans body and mind and it is mostly not a positive thing.
Is there a message that you wanted to convey through the series?
I wanted to create a series that shows that we still can see ourselves as beautiful no matter how bad you feel because of all those hormones.
What role do you think feminist art has in our society?
I think it has a really big role in our society while the 4th wave of feminism is based on the power that is social media. It is a way we can connect and inspire each other over the world.
And finally, what kind of music are you listening to at the moment?
I am listening to all kinds of music..... atm i am into Kaytranada!
