interview: alex flaskas of colossus records
alex flaskas has his hands full in the best way possible. at 20, he is occupied with a band, an independent record label, among other musical projects. it was interesting to talk to this highly accomplished guy.
colossus records is not your average project for someone so young. how did you come up with the idea of creating a label?
it started because myself and a lot of my friends had just started music projects and i wanted to bring those projects together into a body where we could collectively reach a wider
audience and give them opportunities such as promotion and studio recording that isn't easily accessible to sunshine coast bands.
what was the process you had to go through for it to come to fruition?
we started building a following by featuring artists' music & promoting them, and recently we've been holding shows in brisbane/sunshine coast, which has helped the label network with a lot of local artists. we are currently working on a video series with local artists and a lot more releases which are tba soon!
what other projects have you created over the years?
starting with a project called chdhd, which i'd label as art pop/lo-fi. sexual projection is another, which is more synth-pop based and my most recent two, red entries & moonsick with matty mcculloch from laundry boys!
you're in a band called red entries i believe! how's performing live?
yeahh i am, with red entries our music is very much based around our live set. our set is veryy energetic and unpredictable, with experimental noise aspects to it i'd say, which can piss some people off but we definitely have a lot of fun with it.
and most importantly what music are you into these days?
ahhh i'm currently into nick cave quite a bit, parquet courts & the new weyes blood is fantastic.
